Customer Reviews

Works EXCELLENT!You have to wrap the strap around the front bar several times and then around your kayak, making sure it is fastened securely to something on your kayak, like a hand strap or some projection or the like. Otherwise, when hitting your first rock or sand bank or whatever, the kayak wants to keep going and leave the wheels behind. When all is secure, this thing works like a charm. I get dropped off at the Hammond Jetty, walk my kayak to the breakers section by the base of the jetty and Columbia River, and either play around in these breaks or else stow the wheels inside the toe of the kayak (Emotion Revere 10 -- plenty of room) and then ride the tide up river where I get out and walk home using this thing. TOO COOL! I have walked miles carrying my kayak and gear with this thing and it is no less comfortable than simply taking a walk holding a bag or briefcase in one hand. I go through sand dunes to gravel paths to sand paths to sidewalks to where ever. 5Rubber smell not a deterrent.Appears to function correctly as advertised. My low star rating emanates from the fact that the rubber used to make the tires has an extremely strong and lingering chemical smell, as if walking into a new auto tire dealer, enough to bag it and try to dispel the odor with baking soda.Wheels fit properly and the accompanying strap quite acceptable.Addendum: After actually using the product as intended, I wish to revise my earlier review and give this product the full five stars. It is light, simple, and surprisingly durable. Sure, the rubber smell is potent. Be sure to keep it out of your kitchen, shall we say. But for utility and applicability, this is a very good product. I put these wheels under the bow of my 23' Hawaiian racing canoe to wheel it down from 30' above the water down to the water's edge. The only failure occurred from my not having tightened the included strap sufficiently. BUY THIS PRODUCT. 5Easy to attach and get your roll onGreat little cart for getting my kayak from the parking lot to the water. Once attached and secured to my kayak it was super simple to grab the bow handle and roll it. Assembly of adding the two wheels on took a few minutes and I didn't need the instructions it was so simple.Very lightweight, and it fit nicely into the well in the back of my kayak without having to even take the wheels off once I got to the lake. A definite benefit for those days I'm doing point to point vs round trip kayaking. It took a few tries to get the cart to stay in place well, but I've found putting it 2/3 length of the kayak is a good spot. And like other reviewers have said, need to secure it really tight and then it stays on just fine. I use a bungee cord for that instead of the included strap. It rolls great on pavement and well packed grass but struggles on deep sand, so when you hit a sandy patch you'll need to slow down and take your time. 5Works good when modified to fit.I'd like to try to clarify a couple points I've seen in other reviews.First, I had one of the $100 carts as well. Although it looks the same in pictures, it's a little bigger than this cart; so these cheaper carts are not necessarily the same as the expensive ones. However, for me, the expensive one had no advantage and I returned it.Second, I prefer the inflatable tires more than the Malone's solid tire. Some people have complained about the tire smell and that would have been an issue for me, but my tires didn't have a strong smell. The inside of the box had quite an odor, but when I removed the tires their odor was only mild and it went away in a day.I almost gave up on inflating the tires because I couldn't find a chuck for the valve stems. I checked all the pumps at my house and even in the local stores. It really needs an old fashioned screw-on fitting but those must be almost impossible to find these days. I finally grabbed the stem with some needle nose pliers and pulled it up enough to attach my compressor hose. The cross bars that support the canoe are V shaped, and like the other carts, the V isn't deep enough for my Coleman Scanoe's keel. The keel hits the support bars so the canoe tips from side to side. That's why I deducted a star. To overcome this I made a small modification that worked great. I cut off the foam padding and screwed 2X4's across the support bars to raise them so the keel didn't touch first. Doing this allowed me to snug the 2x4's on each side of the keel so the cart always lines up centered and straight. I stapled the foam pads to the 2x4's so they still grip the canoe. I use 4 straps (35" heavy rubber bungee cords) to hold the cart to the canoe. My Scanoe with the electric motor, battery, outriggers, throttle, steering, paddles, PFDs and other items weighs just under 160 lbs. I mount the cart near the center so it bears most of the weight and makes it easy for me to pull it around. One place I launch is about 200 yards to the river. Some parts of the path are smooth and others rough, but the cart stays in place. It's a real pleasure to use. I leave the cart fastened to the bottom of my canoe when transporting it on top of my SUV. 4A waste of moneyWe have an 11 foot Vibe kayak that weighs approx 65 pounds. We bought this to help get it down to the water and back. No matter where you place this under the kayak or how tight you strap it on, the kayak will not stay centered on it. The kayak will twist and eventually fall off within a few feet. I hate this device. It is much smaller then it looks and I could of built 4 carts myself that would of worked 10x better for the price I paid. 1From no way to alrighhhhht!Ok, so i was going to give this product 1 star, because my first few setups were horrible.. my large tandem kept getting thrown off and the cart itself constantly tipping over on the slightly bit of uneven terrain.. about to give up and send back, i watched a few videos on how to exactly use these and the first thing i did was ditch the crap tie down that comes with the product and got myself long strong ratchet tie down.. then i made sure i securely fastened that to the bar that directly held the wheels.. there's no instructions with this item, so who knew? Anyway.. the stronger, much tighter ratchet tie down held my boat perfectly.. i pulled it over all kinds of terrain as practice and that thing didn't budge, tip or move.. the STRONGER longer tiedown is a MUST additional purchase..Oh and yes it smells.. its awful - car smelled a week after putting in there, product still reeks weeks later after leaving it to air out, outdoors.. it's foreign plastic, so yes.. it's pretty toxic smellinglastly, i contacted the company with my concerns when i couldn't get the product to work as advertised and they were GREAT! you don't find good customer service much anymore, so i thought that needed some mentioning. 4Not for every kayak...I have a Lure 10 fishing kayak. The tires are good, they smell, but roll nice. The frame is strong, but it's a struggle to keep it in the open position at times. It's ok on smooth ground, but once off road the slightest bumps or roots will throw it sideways and making it collapse. Had to modify to fit the kayak bottom better and to brace it in the open position, see pictures ... I have yet to try the new setup, but I feel optimistic :-) 3Great cart, easy to use, loads easy.I bought one of thes just to try it out before paying for two in case it wasn t any good. Once I got it I placed my kayak on it and attempted to tie it down. It took me a second to figure out the best way to secure the kayak. Once I had it one there and was confident it wasn t coming off I pulled it around my driveway. It felt good, easy to pull and felt secure. I started doing zigzags and it stayed on and didn t even try to tip over. I went to purchase the second one but was disappointed to see they were out of stock. A couple of days later they were available again.Where we were kayaking at we could park close to the water and since our kayaks only weigh 48 lbs it would didn t really need a cart. I would carry them down to the water while my wife carried the supplies. But we felt we should get carts in case we came across a situation where we couldn t park close to the water.Well right after getting the second one we discovered a more secluded area to go kayaking. The only issue is the boat ramp is about 200 feet long and a steep angle. Well we brought out the carts and the worked like a charm. It is so easy carting the down the ramp and not to bad going back up. Much easier than if we had to carry them.Once we got in the water we just pulled the wheels off, stowed them in the back of the kayak, folded the cart and placed that on top of the wheels and off we went to enjoy a morning on the lake.I don t understand the reviews that say this won t carry a kayak or that it is hard to secure the kayak. We have two Perception Tribes 9.5 and it carries those just fine. I place the cart just before the seat so it s fairly close to the center. I thought that might be too far forward and cause the back to drag while going down the steep incline but if anything it helped make the kayaks easier to pull.If I needed another one I wouldn t hesitate on purchasing this again. Heck I already did. :) 5Flip kayak over to find good placement. After reading numerous reviews I almost did not buy this. But, I am glad I did. I have some ways to help with good placement and strapping. Flip your kayak over and slide the carrier until you have the most flush placement. Use something on your kayak as a marker with the center of the wheels. Makes for easy placement when right-side up.As you can see from my picture, I wrapped the tie down in the middle going around the carrier strap and both bars. The ends of the tie down should both end up on the front or back. I ran zip ties through the center strap and around the tie down strap so I wouldn't have to do that part over and over. Now, when I put my kayak on the carrier I just align the wheels to my marker, pull the 2 tie down ends over, and tighten.I drug it over small limbs, block, and oyster shells. No issues. :-) 5This is probably the best purchase I have made for my boating funI have used this over and over and over. A must for kayaking!! I can literally get anywhere with my kayak using this trolley. Prop it up on the ground, weave the strap through the bars, lay kayak on top, connect strap and tighten. Boom! You're off!! Literally all of ten seconds. I fold and then strap the trolley on to the front of my kayak so I don't have to make a trip back to my car. When I'm on land I unstrap it, unfold it, weave the strap, lay the kayak on it, connect the strap and BOOM. I'm off! This is probably the best purchase I have made for my boating fun. Get one! You won't be sorry. Oh, one tip that I practiced (and learned from reading feedback comments before purchase) - open this outside because the new tire smell is quite overwhelming. Leave it outside for a few days and the scent will fade. It's really well made, by the way.... quality and lightweight :) 5
