Customer Reviews

Pretty good but not the best qualityAs I said in the title its pretty good but not the best quality. This bag has allot of room inside. There is allot of pockets to stash your power supply, cables and any other add-ons you may have for your rig. There is a fleece lined zippered pocket that sports a rubber grommet to hold your media player or smart phone. The grommet in the zipper allows you to run your head phones out the pocket while keeping the zipper closed. The main compartment boasts a large felt lined partition that will accommodate up to a 16" laptop and works perfectly for my 15.6" Samsung Chronos 7. It also has a large pocket attached to the partition which is a great space to stow a large book, drawing tab, or a small midi controller. I give this Item 5 stars for its design and well thought out form factor to make it a very functional bag. As far as the quality, this is where this bag lacks. The outer shell is a very thin nylon fabric. the stitching seems very cheaply done and in fact min started separating along to rear outer pocket after only one week. The durability issues should come at no surprise considering to low price point of this item. Overall, I would have to say this bag is pretty good, but if durability is a must for you, I would recommend looking at the bags made by Swiss or Targus. I have both brands and Swiss seems to be the best quality, but understand you will pay a pretty hefty premium for it as well.So here's my rating:1. Design - 5 Stars2. Functionality - 5 Stars3. Quality / Durability - 2.5 Stars4. Deal - 3 Stars5. Overall - 3.5 Stars3Belkin 15.6" ReviewI purchased this bag in early June for a 15.6" Toshiba Satellite L500 laptop. It fits perfectly. The bag is low profile and light-weight. By low profile, I mean that it doesn't project far away from the user's back. Since the weight is kept close to the wearers back and center of gravity, it helps reduce back strain. The outside of the pack is also very minimalist. Lacking the netting, multiple zippers, pockets, etc that tend to clutter up other laptop back packs. This bag has the look of a very compact parachute. In my opinion it does not scream "laptop bag" like other bags do.As far as storage it comfortably holds my laptop in a padded, felt-lined cradle that sits up against the wearer's back. Further out there's a cavity that goes all the way to the floor of the bag. I'd say it's suitable for 1-2 average sized books or 4-5 paperback novels placed edge to edge in a single layer. I finished college long ago but if I were to estimate, I'd say it could hold a freshman level biology or chemistry book along with 1 spiral notebook, a TI-89 (or comparable), and writing utensils. There's also a small concealed pocket on the outside that could hold a student ID, keys and some cash. The bag also comes with what can best be described as a small banker's purse. It's a rectangular bag mabey 11x5 or so with a zipper along one edge. It's designed to hold your charging cord and helps keep the inside of the pack tidy. This bag is not suitable for students looking to carry a full days worth of books.I've found this bag to be very comfortable to wear and it's a great size for travel. It's compactness makes it great for getting up and down tight airplane isles or crowed security lines. I'd gladly recommend this bag to anyone looking for a smaller but adequate laptop bag.5It has some minor flaws, but it is still my favorite backpack right now.I'm a college student, so all I mostly need to carry is my laptop, a folder, and snacks. I was looking for a thin backpack that could fit a 15.6" laptop. This backpack does that, and it is decently thin compared to standard backpacks. The best part is that it can expand to twice the size when you push the front out (normally it is pushed in, saving you space). This is great for the days when I have to carry extra things with me, like my gym clothes and food. It is really hard to find a backpack like this nowadays for a decent price.Minor flaws:1. The laptop pocket inside is has a little extra room for thicker laptops. My laptop is 0.8" thick, which is about average for most laptops nowadays. The pocket has room for up to 1.3" or so I would say. This means that thinner laptops might move back and forth a little if you are running or climbing stairs. For the most part, this isn't a problem for me, but it would feel better to have it more secure. (Solution: put other stuff in the laptop pocket, folders and papers).2. The two pockets on the outside front have a little too much padding, so the zippers are covered up a little. Not a big deal, but they could have been a bit easier to use.Overall I highly recommend this backpack. I'm very happy with it.4Looks good and fits the need but not durable - not worth the price This pack worked great right up until the zipper failed after 10 months. No surprise as it is a delicate zipper. At some point with a backpack you can expect to have to tug on the zipper while trying to open it with one hand. Unlike most other backpacks which use heavier duty zippers this one is not. In fact I haven't seen a zipper this delicate on any form of luggage for years. The fabric the zipper is attached to is also much more delicate so this is what gave out from too much upward pressure resulting in the zipper snagging on the broken fabric.Additionally, under stress the zipper will separate but because it is so delicate you can run the mechanism over it an rezip it but is that what you want to be able to do with a travel bag?For the price by 3 backpacks of varying sizes and use as needed. 2Utter Crap!!I should have known it wouldn't last when I saw it was made by Belkin. I've had a number of their electronic devices (USB hubs, routers, etc) and all have died before their time. Belkin seems to have some quality control issues. This, alas, seems to be no different. It looks to be a very nice backpack, but I've only used it twice and the zippers are already useless. It was very difficult to zip from the first day that I got it, but now the zippers just skip. Poor quality - true to the Belkin brand.Don't buy it. You'll be sorry.Addendum: I've explored returning the product via the Belkin website for a replacement. Be warned they stick you with the shipping charges for the defective product to send it back to them. Quite frankly, I've wasted enough money on this product, and Belkin in general, and will not be sending this back. Oh, and good luck trying to contact them through email. It's possible but their website is obviously designed to prevent this and makes it a trial. Don't bother with Belkin. You can find better.1Great size, not-so-great features, but it has lastedI've had this bag for over two years now and it's still going strong. I haven't had problems with the zippers, and functionally it's doing what it's supposed to do. The size is great, especially when traveling on public transportation, and I've gotten tons of complements on it. The texture on the handle has started to wear off, but it's a thirty-dollar backpack, so I can't really complain. However, the internal design isn't my favorite. The laptop compartment (closest to your back) works perfectly, no complaints there. But the next pocket, designed for papers and things needs some elastic or something. It's a needed pocket, but because the hem has no elastic any time you try to push something into the main, large compartment, it catches the lip of that pocket and makes things difficult. Also, the pocket near the the top for pens and things really should be bigger because, the netting and smaller pockets at the bottom of the inside of the bag are pretty much useless if you want to store anything else in there. All in all, it's done with I've wanted it to do. But, I do wish the extra pockets were more useable.3Poorly Put TogetherI purchased this backpack on April 11th and had it within 2 days. I've been using it 5 days a week to tote my laptop and Kindle with me back and forth to work. The size and layout is great, and I love the compact size. Unfortunately, the bag is already falling apart. I've had 2 zippers break (1 is stripped and the other changes the thread direction so it is very hard to close or open). The interior top pocket had all of the stitching on the left side come undone, and 1 of the seams on the outside front is also producing thread from another seam.Basically, the bag is falling apart after less than 2 months of use.I don't overload the pack as I realize it is for a few items (why I like the compact size). I carry a Dell Studio 1555 laptop with power cable, my Kinde 3 wifi with charger cable, a journal and 2 pens. That's it....that's all that gets lugged around in the bag. The bag actually has even more space available in it even though it is compact. I don't carry enough to fill it. Thus, I don't know why the bag is falling apart at multiple points. If it was one zipper or one seam I'd understand...but multiple? That indicates shoddy workmanship.I had hoped that - for the price - this would be a good bag to carry a few items back and forth to work each day. Unfortunately, I should have spent the money on a better product. This thing fell apart and will now be going in the trash.1Bad design tore after one monthI'm motivated to write this, my first review, because 1) the laptop bag failed so quickly, and 2) it's taken over a month for Belkin to replace the defective bag.On the positive side, the bag was everything I hoped it would be; slender, light, with a number of useful pockets. It easily held my 14.1" HP EliteBook 8460p and a couple small items. It was just what I wanted.Unfortunately, the bag has two flaws. One, the zipper to the small compartment at the front is very flimsy. It became unaligned after only three uses. I was able to line up the zipper again but was afraid to use it after that. I could have lived with that. The second flaw was much bigger and resulted in my returning the back to Belkin. There is a Belkin label on the front of one of the shoulder straps. The stitching tore out at this label after one month of use. I wish Amazon allowed the inclusion of pictures so I could show exactly where it failed. I didn't have the backpack heavily loaded. Just the laptop, power supply, a small notebook and some pens, etc. Having an unnecessary stitch on a load-bearing strap to advertise "Belkin" is a poor design choice.Anyway, what really chafes my hide is Belkin's delay in replacing the defect bag. In mid April I contacted Belkin for a replacement. I received an RMA number and quickly returned the defective bag, as instructed, waiting for the replacement bag before I left on a business trip. That trip has come and gone, and still no replacement bag from Belkin. So, in summary, buyer beware. The bag is not built to last (even two months, it seems), and good luck getting good service from Belkin.UPDATE 10/29Belkin sent me a new bag (I had to pay shipping for the RMA), shortly after posting my original review. The new bag has worked well, even the zipper, although the small zippers in the front still feel flimsy. Generally I like this backpack. It's big enough to be useful but shallow enough to not be bulky. Updating to three stars.3Clean and Techy- As a follow-up. My zippers are only just now bursting and the fabric at the topmost handle is faded and worn. I have at times over stuffed it, but I also have a Da'kine Backpack, that I have had for more than ten years and, while worn, has lasted. This backpack is sweet. It fits my 15in Mac perfect, even with it's neoprene sleeve. I was also able to fit a tablet, and some other tools for my job. There are actually two pockets on the outside, one for your phone or ipod (headphone option in the zipper) and a larger pocket under the grey stripe big enough to fit an old Samsung tablet, but its not padded, so i opted to put the tablet in the second larger interior pocket attached to the padded laptop pocket. The bag comes with a loose pouch that will fit your six foot charging cable or any other items, like pens, pencils, make-up, whatever. The mesh pouches are great and the upper interior pocket is useful too. I have to question the funky card pockets, but your credit/business cards can fit in there own pockets too. There is even a clip for your keys. I love the clean design and low-pro style. It is also very comfortable. I highly recommend it for someone who wants a light-weight pack for on-the-go. I found the previous review helpful too.5Decent Backpack - GARBAGE ZIPPERSPros:Very comfortable. This backpack tends to hug your whole back rather than your middle back making it muuuch less of a burden to wear.Versatile. Originally I intended to use it just for my laptop and accessories, but because its so comfortable to wear (I usually hate backpacks) I find myself using it all the time. I carried it around with me to haul water and stuff all around Disney World for a week with little discomfort.Sleek looking. It truly has a slim profile and just looks better on your than some bulky nerdy backpack.Cons:Very Cheap zippers, which was expected for the price. I take a star away for that because I would have paid more if it came with some advertised high quality zippers. The outside back pocket zipper comes apart if I zip it too fast but backtracking as fixed it every time so far.In summary: I recommend this backpack for under $30.Edit: So almost 2 years later I have to say, while I love how this backpack grips your back, stays low profile and consequently distributes weight very well....THE ZIPPERS SUUUUUUCK.Why do manufacturers insist on cheap freaking zippers?! Do heavy duty zippers cost like 5 bucks more? CHARGE TEN BUCKS MORE! We will pay if we know the zippers will actually work years down the road!3Slimmest and ClassiestThis backpack looks classy. No gaudy colours, all black, extremely slim, even the zippers and hidden.Just running my hand over the material, the hand grip, the zippers, it oozes quality all over.It has a main compartment with separations for laptop and other accessories. I carry my 15.4 " laptop in the laptop compartment and in the other compartment I carry my water bottle, lunch box, a novel and laptop charger. There are two outside pockets. In the large one, I carry my wallet and other small accessories. In the small one I carry a chap stick, keys, bus pass and access cards. In spite of carrying all these things when I put on the backpack on my shoulder it doesn't feel too heavy and it fits snug against my back. Nothing in the bag juts out or hangs loosely. My co workers were all praises for the looks of the backpack and how slim it was. They could hardly believe that i could fit the widescreen 15.4 " laptop in my bag, because it looked too small. Imagine their surprise when i told then what else i had in the bag. I couldn't help laughing seeing the astounded look on their faces.I couldn't be more happier with a backpack purchase. Look at the price, it's the cheapest backpack of it's kind out there and in spite of that it's light years ahead in quality and looks of all other backpacks that Amazon sells, even the ones which are 10 times the price. If you are someone who is particular about having a thousands pockets in your backpack to organize all your things, then this might not be the right one for you. However let me also tell you that I used to be such a person, but I got converted after i purchased this pack. I am willing to sacrifice a bit of organization for the looks and convenience of this backpack.5
