Customer Reviews

Long Underwear BasicsThere are three basic types of long underwear which are:- Wool - Works well in the warmth department, but very itchy, scratchy and generally uncomfortable. Also special care needs to be taken when washing wool.- Cotton - When cotton gets wet its hard to dry. Generally comfortable, but dont sweat in it and its limited in the warmth department.- Polypropylene - Drys quickly when it gets wet. Comfortable to wear. Durable. Easy to wash warm. Within the polypropylene category you have thin 5 oz variety all the way up to the beefy 10 oz variety. You also have double-layer and other types. .This model of long underwear is polypropylene and its the basic 5 ounce variety of polypropylene. This will not be ultra-warm, but serve as an adequate base layer and will keep you warm enough. If you sweat in this it will dry quickly. If you really need more warmth you have the "Expedition" model which has 10 ounces of polypropylene or basically twice as thick as this model.Which is best for you? The 5 ounce "Enthusiast" model or the 10 ounce "Expedtion" model? If you are constantly on the move you dont want too much warmth. I would say to go with the "Enthusiast" model. However, if you intend on standing around or the temperature is really low than go with the "Expedition" model. As an alternative you can simply double up on the "Enthusiast" model when it gets really cold or you need to stand around.Keep in mind this is just a base layer...its only underwear...and its not meant to be the only thing you wear or your primary source of warmth. You are supposed to put your regular clothes on along with a jacket and ski bib or other outerwear. Thus this underwear only serves to enhance your other layers of clothing and outerwear. There are other brands to check out such as Weatherproof 32 degrees and Indera. However, this brand does the intended job of providing the base layer. Whether you need the basic 5 ounce "Enthusiast" version or the 10 oz "Expedition" version is up to you.My suggestion is to buy multiple packs of the 5 ounce version. If you really need more warmth simply double it up on the coldest days.5Average performance, collect lint like crazyThese bottoms are fine for mild weather, not freezing temps. Feel okay, no pinching or binding and are very thin for the amount of heat they keep in. Wore these occasionally for 3 winters and they are about ready for the trash. From the very first washing on they pilled-up and collected every piece of lint possible. I like coldpruf thermals but these made of polypropylene underperform in my opinion & whats up with the lint? I work outside most of the time in all types of weather, so I won't be buying these again. 3 stars is giving a little extra however being thin these might work well for casual wear under one's regular garments if most of your time is spent indoors vs outside in winter.3comfortable, but still pretty dang chillyi live in minnesota and am experiencing a beastly cold winter, as is standard for this part of the u.s. i read the reviews for these longjohns and was impressed with how many people said they were surprisingly warm. i was glad to be able to retire the old 'layer all your workout leggings under your jeans at once' method of insulating myself against the negative temperatures! but the thing is, this base layer isn't as toasty as i had expected. great for knocking around the house, great for pajamas, but they do very little once you trek out into the frozen tundra. i often come in from having a single cigarette--an activity that takes eight to ten minutes *tops*--and my legs are almost completely numb, and are red/blotchy from the cold even when it's only 30F. so, while these are comfy and do add a little warmth, overall i'd say they're not the best suited garment for intense prairie winter temperatures (which isn't what they're designed for anyway, to be fair; could have gone with one of the multi-layer types). they might do nicely once the weather gets up past the 40s in spring, though!4Almost as good as the military versionI purchased this product for my wife and myself as winter was approaching to our area. We've got the whole set and we tried it outside few times.Overall good product but I have to say that it is not as good as the military version which is sold at amazon and surplus military stores. The military version is a bit ticker, can better retain heat and has better moisture wicking properties.I think this is a good value for anyone looking to stay warm while shoveling snow or doing some work outside on a cold day. But if work outdoors or are exposed to significant low temperatures, "my very personal" recommendation will be to go for the military version.4Nice, but not the material advertised.Very disappointed to see it is not 100% polypropylene as described. Inside label says 60% cotten, 40% Polyester (polypropylene is a subcatagory of polyester).Well made, like the thickness - but cotton absorbs sweat vs. wicking it away like polypropylene.I bought a LS Coldpruf top last year and it was 100% polypropylene as advertised and it is great for high activity in cold.3First time buying thermals was a successPros- Great material and comfortably snug around the waist. It serves it's purpose well.Cons- I don't know if they were exactly "cold pruf." This year, we had negative degree weather in the Midwest and though these did help a lot within the negatives, I believe these could have been a bit more protective during the extreme cold.My height is 6 foot even and 240 lbs and I've decided that I couldn't go wrong with Large. I think I was a bit wrong because they were just slightly baggy on me but still served it's purpose. I'm losing weight so I'm not sure what it's going to be when I get back down to my normal weight of 200 lbs. I may have to shrink them in the dryer.5Medium density thermal for moderately cold 45F This has a knitted material feel, is not smooth like the really thin ones. I've worn it under a pair of denim in Oregon, and it was OK. Not great. I felt like it didn't wick moisture away as good as my other thermal tights.I think this is OK for moderate exercise, where as high intensity exercise will lead to moisture build up and some discomfort.I would say this thermal is medium density, good for cold weather in 50~40F , but I wouldn't trust this for freezing temperature of below.*My comfort zone is subjective, I don't like being cold, so others may find their experience a little different.I'll change this review if it improves with more wash cycle.4Good product for a good price.I just went through a - 25 below F week in Montana and wore these long johns (I am too old to start calling them "base layer") everyday while out feeding livestock, unfreezing water, and various other chores. They worked great and are very comfortable. I bought three sets of them and may go buy another three. I spent 3 times as much for about the same product at Cabella's.5These 100 % polypropylene long johns are awesome. I found out about this fabric in the ...These 100 % polypropylene long johns are awesome. I found out about this fabric in the 80s, and bought some bottoms for winter, back then I paid 36 $ a piece for them, And Im here to tell you they are super thin, almost like a second skin. I would ride my bycicle in the winter when it was 10 below and colder ! As these for a base layer and just a pair of jeans on these underwear retains your heat and keeps you very warm. You would never think a fabric this thin could keep you so warm. And to fimd these 100 % polypropylene for 11 $, I bought 2 pairs !!!!!!5Great fit and comfort and they wash well Perfect!Purchased this for my husband, who referees sports where the weather can be chilly. I wanted something that would be lightweight, that would ward off the chill but not get too sweaty or hot for active sports. These are perfect!!! Super comfortable to wear all day, great fit and they wash up really well. I also purchased the matching long sleeve crew top and they are great. Will surely buy more of these for us both!5
