    Small, sturdy whistle but loudAwesome whistle for officiating at sports. Please read some of the reports on the hazard of repeated exposure to whistles this powerful. Hearing damage is cumulative.Clearly not the fault of the whistle manufacturer.Since not only was I blowing my whistle, but the other officials were blowing theirs. I invested in a good quality custom made earplugs. Made the world of difference.PSA over, if you are looking for a good quality whistle that has a simple design and is LOUD. This is the one. It also happens to be an easy whistle to clean. 5Only whistle I ll buyI lost my previous fox 40 and was so bummed. I used an old, metal whistle I found at work and hated the feel of it and the sound.The fox 40 classic is extremely comfortable to use. It s sound is loud and piercing. I coach basketball and track. It is loud enough to work well outside for track and piercing enough to cut through the noise of a very echoey gymnasium.While it is piercing I find it much less painful and irritating than many other whistles.Honestly, if you need a whistle, I don t know why you would get any whistle other than a fox 40 classic. 5Small enough to fit on your keychain. Loud enough to wreck your hearing.Loud. Takes up very little space. I think I've seen that this is the second loudest whistle manufactured. The loudest is a marine rescue whistle designed to attach to a life jacket for rescue at sea. It's big enough that if no one comes to rescue you, you can fill it with air, crawl inside, and wait until you wash ashore. This whistle can be attached to your keychain and put in your pocket, so it's a better fit for me.Takes some technique to blow, but easily learned. Don't just blow on it. Put your tongue between your lips to block the air, blow out to build pressure, and then pull in your tongue to "Pop" the air. Listen to a basketball game sometime and hear how the ref's whistle sounds. It's because that's how this whistle works. Sharp, loud, piercing.And if you still can't get it, go down to your local basketball team or soccer field and ask one of the refs. They'll show you. 5Make your whistle known to the worldI bought this whistle for recess duty at my school. Before this, I had a $5 whistle from Walmart. When I blew it, it sounded as if there was a question mark behind it. Now, people take me more seriously with my fox 40. It has helped me to build confidence in myself, and my peers have taken notice. My principal even approached me and said she'd love to give me a raise, but then we both realized that I was a teacher, so that didn't happen. Thanks anyway Fox 40! 5Perfect If Loud Is All You Need.Very loud. The volume ranges from very loud to painful. Unlike some whistles, a gentle puff does not get you a subdued whistle, so it may not be good in some applications like refereeing sports or any kind of use indoors. However, it's perfect if what you need is to be heard at long distances, like a search and rescue scenario. 4Fox 40 Classic WhistleI like this whistle. I don't know if it's legal or not but I have been getting these calls from persons unknown that are telling me my computer is infected so I blew this whistle in the phone and they didn't call back so far. This whistle is loud. 5Meh, not incredibleReally loud, but that's not all there is to a whistle. I personally don't like how high-pitched it is. Also, I think it works better (sounds better) if you blow harder on it. Maybe that's inherent to the fact that it's a pealess whistle, but it's bad because it you don't always want a super loud sound; sometimes just a loud sound.It's a respectable whistle, and a good whistle, but perhaps I put it a bit on a pedestal. I though it would be perfect and it didn't live up to that. It's still a good whistle, but I'll keep looking. Also I'm cheap and more than $5 for a whistle is expensive for me given that I already have a whistle and have gotten some functional ones for free. I guess I just expected more given that I paid money for it. 3Product is not GenuineThis product is not a genuine Fox 40 product. I read some reviews that said it was not and thought, well, it sure looks like it. I am here to tell you that I ordered it and it is not genuine. It does not have the same distinct sound of a Fox 40 and, trust me, I know my whistles. Refereeing basketball, football, and working traffic have taught me well about what kind of whistle to use. Fox 40 is one of my most favorite whistles of all time, next to the Acme Thunderer. It's a shame that fake product is sold like this; its a waste of money. Order this product elswhere or buy it in a sporting goods store. 1Very, very loud!When we received the package and opened it my wife tried one of the whistles. She did not put much effort into it, gave a half hearted puff and declared that it was not very loud. I tried it with some gusto in my attempt and it was ear piercing. Never will I use it in the house again! Outside it is still extremely loud. I do not believe you could find a louder mouth blown whistle.We bought these because of their double tone. I wanted something loud and unique so my dog would recognise it from a long distance. Whenever I walk him I use it so he will know the sound. We just went to Acadia National Park and I felt sure that if he got away that he would find us through the use of these whistles. They also would be a good rescue tool. Great Product! These are just what we needed. 5Classroom managementI teach a music class in a gymnasium. (don't get me started). classroom management has been a bit of a pill lately, and I thought to myself, "if the gym teacher can have a whistle, then so can I!" Works great. It's exactly what you'd expect. I perfectly fine plastic whistle. Durable, loud if you want it to be. I'm satisfied. (The kids never saw it coming, by the way. lol.) 5
