    It's been good until tonightCaught the guy stealing my bike. It happened so fast, not sure what tool he used, scared him off and saved the bike.I looked at Kryptonite website to hopefully get the lock replaced but they seem to only have a guarantee of the bike is stolen and you need proof of sale for the bike. Silly because for me and a lot of other people I bought mine with cash on Craigslist.LockWorked well until it was cut 3great as a second inexpensive bike lockIts a decent lock. I personally would not have this as my sole bike lock though. I also have a Kryptonite Series 2 standard lock with the cable so this was just an extra precaution. That lock is much sturdier and has the cable which helps deter thieves a bit more. However I would not buy this by itself. Get a Series 2 Standard lock instead first (or an equivalent) and buy this one on top of it for extra protection especially if you have an expensive bike. 3Don't buy this lockI only purchased this product a little over a month ago, and the lock is completely jammed. It takes me at least 10 minutes to unlock it every time I need to use it. The key twists 90 degrees and does not move beyond that no matter how many tricks I find online. As someone who relies on their bike to get between classes and work, it's absolutely ridiculous that something as stupid as a bike lock is keeping me from being on time to my obligations. Don't buy this lock. 1Not Great....This is the 2nd Kryptonite Keeper U-Lock I have purchased. I was okay with the first one, but lent it to a friend and never saw it again. I like that it's a long U-Lock, which makes it easier for me to lock my bike to railings and posts, etc.Unfortunately, a con with this particular lock from Kryptonite, is that the lock itself is difficult; it often takes me a solid minute or two to unlock it. My first one was like this as well, and judging from the other reviews, this is a common issue. Also, the mounting mechanism that the lock came with did not fit my bike, which has a somewhat "fat" frame. Typically I trust this brand, but this particular product from them, is subpar. 3Key constantly sticks in lockI have had this lock for over 5 years and am in the process of replacing it with a different manufacturer. I found the key constantly sticking and had to be oiled frequently. I use this lock to secure an outside gate so the the lock is outdoors 24X7. Perhaps it is not designed for this type of use, but the sticking problem began within the first few months of use. Since I live in /southern California, the lock experiences rain only for a few months in winter where the temperature never goes below 40 degrees. Other than the sticking problem, the lock was sturdy and well made. I originally purchased this product for around $15 so it was a real bargain that lasted over 5 years. Based on my experience is not worth the current price of $42. 3Overall an OK lock for the priceI overall like the lock, but I too have had the problem of the key not turning properly to lock/unclock it, (others have described it as jamming).I've discovered that if you hold the straight part of the lock vertically, (with the key-lock facing straight down or straight up), that it seems to unjam it, and the key will turn smoothly. Sort of annoying, but it generally works. It's also not the thickest lock in the world, (I wouldn't use it with an expensive bike. But I like that it's lighter so it's easier to carry).Also, I hate to be a Debbie Downer . . . . But you really shouldn't have the expectation for Kryptonite to stick to their warranty when you paid cash for the lock on Craig's List. . . 4Don't buy if it ever rains near you.This product was AMAZING!... until I took it off my coffee table after owning it for 7 months and started riding a bike to commute every day at all times. If anyone who does this in an environment where it never, ever rains they would have great results as well. I have only been commuting every day since January 2018 (currently May 2018) and already my lock has seized so badly that I was lucky that the last time it functioned happened to be after I had taken the lock off at my home. The attached photo shows the key( the twisted, mangled remains) after trying to get it to turn so I could lock my bike. I had to use pliers to make it function at all and it twisted the key before I gave up. It is seized by rust in 4 months. I live in Kentucky, what a joke. 2Disappointing, takes foreverI unfortunately hate this lock. I think it might be defective but I never kept my packaging. Trying to unlock it takes up to 5 minutes, usually around 1 minute or longer. I have to wiggle the key endlessly until it will finally unlock, I've tried various different wiggling-the-key techniques (including flipping the key over) and I have no idea why it doesn't ever seem to unlock easily.Basically it takes forever to unlock. I expected better for the price and the hype. 1Excellent lock, slightly faulty bracketThis is the third Kryptonite lock I buy and the first Keeper. The lock works perfectly. I have never had any problems with Kryptonite lock in general, and this was not the exception. The lock itself is not as heavy as other, "more secure" locks from Kryptonite, but it seems just as sturdy. I feel safe leaving my bike in a park-and-ride for the whole day. They changed the bracket and it's much easier and straightforward to attach it to the bike, but it has the same problems that that other one had. Mainly, it gets slightly loose over time, not enough to stop being functional, but enough to make it sound like all the screws in the bike are about to fall off. It is a matter of tightening it every so often, or just carry the lock in your backpack like most people do. Not a deal breaker though. Overall, the lock is five stars (the bracket not so, but compared to other brackets out there, it is on par). 5OK lock once you get it acceptably mountedAt first I tried mounted this lock on the seat tube but as other reviewers have pointed out the lock cannot be housed within the frame's triangle because it needs to slide upwards to be removed. So as others have done I rotated the mount 90 degrees positioning it off the side. This was merely OK because my leg would occasionally bump the lock.I tried mounting it on the top tube with the included bolts but my Trek Navigator 200's top tube was too large for them, so I used some 2" x #8 machine screws instead. While this doesn't look great it has keeps the lock far away from my legs and also frees up space for a water bottle inside the frame triangle. I used the included rubber strip in the mount to keep it from rotating. I've attached images to this product showing how I mounted it.Otherwise the lock has worked OK. The key mechanism can sometimes be a bit stiff, but otherwise it hasn't given me any problems.Update August 2016: the lock is still working great despite daily use and being stored outside! Now and again I'll drip a little oil into the lock to keep it working smoothly. Also the bracket has held up just fine. Rating increased to 4 stars. 4
