Customer Reviews

A great budget dress watchI've been eyeing this watch for a while now knowing I need a better dress watch, but also not wanting spend hundreds of dollars. The thing that's been casting doubt is the logo; I HATE Orient's logo, and from the pictures, it seemed very prominent on the watch's face. However, from first wear I haven't wanted to take this watch off. It's beautiful, it keeps time well, and it's definitely a looker with the right outfit. My concern - the logo's prominence - vanished almost immediately. It blends in well with the watch and is anything but noticeable from afar. My only qualm with this Bambino is that the automatic winding mechanism is a little noisy and forceful. Compared to other automatics I own, you can feel the winding mechanism on your wrist a little more than others, and up close you can hear it too.For a budget automatic dress watch, you can't go wrong with this. The bezelled face, classy band, automatic mechanism, clean hour lines, and elegant arms, nothing tops this price point.5Stunning, deceptively high quality, beautiful watchLike several others who have purchased this watch, this is my first mechanical watch; my first "real" classy watch. At around $130 bucks, this is an absolute value. To save review readers some time, I'll just say that if you're looking for an inexpensive, entry-level automatic watch and are considering buying this, just buy it right now. You will be very glad you did.As far as appearance goes, I cannot believe how stunning this watch is to look at. The pictures and videos you see of it all over the place cannot begin to capture it's elegance. It's not a directly WHITE face; it's more like a light cream/off-white color that looks absolutely brilliant. The mesmerizing sweep of the second hand is hypnotic in its beauty; you can feel the craftsmanship that went into it. It keeps quite accurate time as well; it uses an in-house Japanese movement, which is a big plus for a watch at this price range. The other thing is that due to its simplicity and its sparing of too many complications, the watch is incredibly easy to read quickly; there are some beautiful watches out there with lots of complications that make it difficult to quickly acquire the time; I didn't think that mattered much to me until I got this watch. Being able to tell the time IMMEDIATELY upon looking at the watch seems like it would be obvious, but with many watches, this is not the case.Friends of mine who are serious watch collectors confirmed my purchase as one of the very best entry-level automatic watches that you can buy. Seiko's SARB065 aka "Cocktail Time" or basically any other SARB also falls into a great entry level watch category; but if you want something that looks incredibly elegant, and functions and looks like a higher-priced watch. Definitely worth getting this; makes for a great daily dress watch for the office; I am using the band that came with it, and it works great with a business/smart casual look.5Nice WatchThis is a great looking automatic watch for the price. The second hand doesn't glide as smooth as a Rolex or Tag but I guess that is to be expected given the price difference. I didn't care for the band. It was a little too stiff and shiny. It kind of had the look and feel of something like tuxedo shoes built for the $40 retail price point. It wants to be fancy but isn't. I replaced it with a nice brown seiko band and I think it looks stunning.I know some people have noted that the watch loses a second or two a day. This isn't really an issue for me because I change it up between two watches and usually have to reset the time anyway because its power reserve had been exhausted. All in all I am really happy with this purchase.4Gorgeous mid-century style, excellent time-keeper tooWhen I saw this Orient Bambino 2nd Generation watch, I did a double take. It looked nearly identical to my cherished mid-1900s Omega Seamaster automatic watch. The differences are that the Seamaster has a 34.5mm stainless steel case diameter, no date function, and of course, an amazingly precise Omega 550 automatic Swiss movement. The Orient Bambino 2nd Generation, by contrast, has a 40mm stainless steel case, a date function, plus a hack feature as well as hand-wind ability in its Japanese made movement. I haven't seen a more elegant modern watch in this style at this price point. Out of the box, and either on my wrist or on my dresser all day, the watch gains +6-7 seconds per day, which is better than many of my vintage Omega watches. I paid under $100 before taxes for the Orient on Amazon, and would gladly buy this again.Other than the style, which is a matter of taste, the two features I value most in this watch are the hack feature and the ability to hand wind. The hack feature, for those who may not know, means that when the crown is pulled all the way out, the second hand stops. This allows the fussy among us to set the EXACT time compared to a reliable reference, such as an atomic clock. The hack feature makes it easy to determine exactly how fast or slow one's watch is running, without using a watchmaker's electronic gizmo to do so. The hand wind feature is a great supplement to the auto-wind movement, especially if you don't keep your automatic watch on a watch winder while you wear different watches in your collection. The movement feels and sounds a bit gritty when winding, not unexpected for this price point. This watch will probably last the user many years, but forget about having it serviced by a watchmaker unless it has great sentimental value, because a new watch will cost substantially less than what a qualified watchmaker must charge to stay in business. The black dial is beautifully done. The stainless hands contrast very nicely, and are very visible in most light conditions. There is no lume on the hands or dial so this isn't the best watch for telling time in the actual dark. The domed crystal will be an easy target for scratches in dings, so I'll be wearing mine with long sleeve shirts for protection against banging on walls. The case diameter is about right for my 7 1/4" wrist, at least by today's standards, but I wouldn't care for a larger diameter. The stainless steel case back is screwed on, so you'll need a case opening wrench to get it off. Many reviewers don't seem to care for the rather stiff, glossy, 21mm leather band. I don't mind it at all, although I am not a particular fan of leather that is embossed to imitate alligator hide. Bands in 21mm are less common than other sizes but there are plenty of them on Amazon and other internet sources at reasonable prices, so I didn't let that deter me. When the time comes to replace the band, I will do it myself, making sure that I also reuse the signed Orient buckle.I have quite a few watches in my collection, and my preferred watch brand is Omega. I have only recently begun to start wearing inexpensive (meaning, under $300 to me) mechanical and quartz watches again after decades of wearing fine, vintage mechanical watches. If you have want a reasonably precise mechanical watch with this styling, and don't have a ton of money for a more expensive watch, I recommend trying one of these. This watch is now one of my favorites. No mechanical watch will ever be as precise as a cheap quartz watch. Replacing batteries is much cheaper than servicing mechanical watches. However, if, like me, you've ever had your watch battery die when you are in the backroads of an island territory where you don't speak their language, on a business trip, you will appreciate the trade-offs that being battery-free can offer you. Plus, mechanical watches are just plain cool, even if they don't have a see-through case back that lets you see the movement.5Great quality; beautiful pieceGreat quality; beautiful piece. Can't beat the movement for the price. This is sold out almost everywhere. Has hand winding and hacking.5An Elegant Watch! This is the best watch you can get when it comes to an automatic. This specific one I chose here, because it looks the best out of the other versions, and is the very first version in this 2nd generation. The watch feels so luxurious, that it looks and feels like it's worth way more than a bit over a hundred dollars. In low lighting as seen in the picture I provided, you can see that it pops out! This timepiece is a worthy purchase and you'll relatively fall in love with it immediately.5A fantastic deal! A marvelous watch. It is a fantastic watch. I have never seen this beauty and quality for so little money. I have got another automatic Orient watch for some time now and it works as well as my other much more expensive watch. The pearl-like color is indeed more beautiful than a plain white. Very happy with this purchase!5Beautiful but...This is beautiful watch but has some issues. First is the strap it comes with feels horrible I took it off immediately and put a synth leather nato that felt better. This brings me to next issue, 21mm strap size (fixed in v4 bambinos) means replacement options are pretty limited. My final complaint is it feels delicate, not in a bad way just that it makes me worry about damaging it more easily than I'd like but as this is a watch you'd use for dressy occasions it should remain far from those dangers. Complaints aside, getting a watch this pretty for this price is worth the hassle but I'd recommend getting a V4 over this one.4Fantastic looking, very well sized watch with an in ...Absolutely superb timepiece!I own and rotated through high end Japanese and Swiss watches including Grand Seiko and numerous Rolex models and have no problem finding a place for this gem along its much more expensive cousins!Fantastic looking, very well sized watch with an in house auto/manual/hackable movement.Unbelievably priced. Probably the best value in mechanical watches that are entirely produced in house.5Excellent PurchaseWaited a good week or so to make comments. Watch is fantastic as are all orient watches. Love to be able to hack insuring correct time. A bit larger than I care for but grew use to it in 48 hours. Size is just a nostalgic thing with an automatic / windable watch. Keeping great time. The band. Others have replaced theirs. Mine very soft after bending a few times. So no replacement for as it is very comfortable. Great purchase. Highly Recommend.5
