Enhance stability - Locate just above loaded water line - 4 inches wide x 9 feet long Provide buoyancy - Will help prevent sinking if canoe is ever swamped - important for safety! They look sharp and will protect your canoe from bumps and scrapes - Cushion between canoe and dock. This is the manufacturer's original equipment product and is only offered in one length. They do not have to extend for the full length of the canoe. But if you want, buy two sets and cut and splice them to make longer ones. These are rounded and should not be confused with SportsPal sponsons which are square in cross-section.
