Customer Reviews

A Little Better Quality Control NeededI was installing a nice dartboard and loved the idea of having a laser line instead of sticking an adhesive line on the floor. Those adhesive lines always get torn up after use, and look terrible quickly. A laser would be the slickest way to go. Everything about this item was clean and neat when installing it. I leveled it perfectly, mounted it securely, and started to adjust it to the regulation distance from the face of the board (96" for soft tip games). The issue became apparent once I set the distance. The laser line was crooked (not parallel with the wall) on the floor. You can make very small adjustments (twists) to the laser head to project an even line (parallel to the mounting wall) but not enough to remedy this issue. After many checks to verify everything was mounted and leveled correctly I found the laser to be installed in the plastic, adjustable head poorly. It was installed in the head with some rotation instead of flat, and I couldn't adjust it enough to correct it. This item wasn't checked closely enough during manufacture to catch the issue. I am not a fan of having to send items back, and I can fix just about anything.... so I modified the design myself. I took it apart, found the rotation slots that limit the twisting adjustment amount, and expanded the slots. This allowed me to rotate the laser head enough to undo the poor alignment of the laser. All is well now. I wouldn't recommend fixing this item yourself as it voided the warranty (according to the sticker I removed on the back) but I am not a fan of warranties either. Good products don't rely on warranties. I like having the laser line though! 3Wow. So cool. I've been needing this for years and years. I'm not sure why I never bought one of these before. More than likely I didn't know that they existed until I bought my new dart board. Hanging on the wall is SUPER SIMPLE. the light rotates in every direction so once you have the distance measured you just match the light to it.I've always used tape or have spray painted a line on the garage floor but no more. And my wife is very happy about that :) It doesn't show up on my garage floor when my door is open and it's mid-day and to expect that would be ridiculous. Close the door and shows up just fine.Once mounted on the wall you will see the panel where the batteries go and an on/off switch so all you have to do is flip the switch when you grab your darts to play or put your darts away. I'm pretty confident I won't ever have to replace the batteries. 5Save Yourself the AggravationI had no problem with seeing the line that it projected, but for someone interesting in setting up a regulation board this is not a good product. It is almost impossible to get the line at the correct distance and parallel to the board, since a tiny movement is greatly magnified at almost 8 feet away. Then the major issue is that once it is finally set up and "locked-in" the repeated impact of darts causes the line to move. The set screws might protect against having the laser bumped, but they do nothing to prevent line creep. After using for a few days, I felt things were off and after pulling out the tape measure again, found they were by over 2" - this is not acceptable when setting up a practice environment.Save yourself some hassle and just use some tape. On my carpeted basement floor, I found that Velcro One-Wrap tape works great, just put the hook side down. It can be easily removed if need be. 2Works GreatJust installed the Vaper laser Toe line. Very happy with it so far. We had carpet in our game room and could find a way to mark the toe line that would not damage the carpet. We mounted the Vaper laser Toe line to the celling grid in front of where the toe line needed to be (instead of under the dart board shown but the manufacture), connecting the toe line AC adaptor to the can light shining on the dart board so when the light is turned on so is the toe line laser. It works great! 5Great item, especially for price, if you are a serious darter read the full review.Update to original review: I just now replaced the batteries after 5 months of using it basically every other day. Battery life far exceeded my expectations and it was still working, the line was just getting a bit dim. The batteries still had about 1.06 volts apiece left in them, but it's definitely brighter now that I replaced them. I haven't had any problems with this item, highly recommended. If you know how to measure from left and right side of the board and then use the hypotenuse from the bulls eye to verify your line, you can simply put tape on the floor temporarily to aim this laser (you likely already have tape on the floor). I didn't find this hard to aim, just tighten (or loosen in my case) the screws so that you can still move the laser, then tighten slightly. I mounted this about 6" below my dartboard, attached to my backboard. I was worried that vibrations from the board would throw the laser off but I've used it for 2 weeks now (I practice a lot) and it hasn't moved at all. I just verified all measurements are still correct after probably 2000 darts thrown to the board. I can't speak to durability from a direct hit from a dart to the laser. I don't plan on ever doing that but I'm sure it will happen sometime. Batteries have held up just fine thus far, I thought about buying the AC adapter but if these batteries last me a couple of months I'm fine with that in order to not have a cord cluttering the area up. This is better than the Winmau laser which sticks out from the wall quite a bit more, I have experience with that one as well. 5Perfect for indoor darts! This product is awesome! I opted to mount it to the bottom of my wood dart cabinet with Velcro that I found on Amazon for $3.00. So I avoided putting more holes in the wall and was able to connect the laser oche to the cabinet without drilling anything. The laser is great, even in a well lit room. My set up is next to large windows on the second floor of the house in the game room, and even with the blinds open I can still see the laser oche. You will need to fidget with the measurement of the line a bit to get it just right (there is a ball joint hinge that the laser rests in, and a slight movement can throw the line off a few inches by moving it even a few centimeters when setting it up). This is not a negative by any means just a heads up. The value of this product for the price point is a no brainer to me. Keep your wife happy by not messing up the floor and make your dart set up complete at the same time!I included the picture of the Velcro I found simply to make it easy for anyone interested in the same to find. 5Great solution for carpeted areas!I don't understand the negative reviews. This works perfectly for me in our carpeted area. I didn't want to put tape down on plush carpet and this is more than bright enough to see in normal lighting conditions. If the sun were coming in the window directly on the line, maybe it would be washed out... maybe. I don't have a direct sunlight problem and it is very bright line. With that said, I don't know if it is less bright when using batteries. I have a plug in Helix dart board so there was already a cord hanging down the wall. I had an extra universal AC adapter that I am using with the Viper. I've only had it a couple weeks but have already used it several times. It was easy to mount and adjust for proper throw length. I couldn't be more happy and my guests have commented about how cool it was. 5Great product, bad QAThe product is great, but the quality control department is lacking a little. I mounted my Viper and set it up for the correct distance on the floor. When I went to tighten the screws to hold the laser in place, the laser went out. Upon further inspection, I noticed the red wire coming out from the laser was cut by the screw that tightens because it was taped right behind the screw! I was able to remove the wire and replace it with a PCB jumper and re-wire it to the battery, but I shouldn't have to go through all of that for a simple wiring mistake. Oddly, there was tape in the device to hold the wires down, but it was taped right to the back of the screw. Unit works great now with the new wiring. The pictures show how it came taped, how the wires looked when broken, and how it all looked when I replaced with a jumper. 3Even better than pictured!!!OK, this thing is absolutely brilliant. My dartboard is in the carpeted office. To set an oche, (throwline), I'd have to invest in a rubber dartmat which I didn't particularly want. My office is bright with halogen lights and 2 large windows allowing lots of natural light. All that light does not make the red line difficult to see. It's crystal clear. The batteries just keep going. I thought I'd have had to change them well before now.Now it seems that the one I received is slightly different to the one shown in the image here. Changed for the better I hasten to add. A couple of reviewers noted that the laser is easy to knock requiring you to get out the tape measure and reset the line to the correct distance. The one I received has 2 locking screws either side of the moveable laser so it can be locked into position once you have it set. If you play a lot then it is possible to get a 5V power adapter eliminating the need for batteries, but I'd let a set of 4 AAs wear out before you invest in that to see if you're OK with the amount of time it takes to burn them up. 5Junk!Pretty worthless. I saw the reviews, so, I thought it would be alright, but it's not for a couple reasons. First, it's really hard to get set correctly. You hold it where you want the line and then try to set the set screws and although it's not impossible... Is pretty close to being impossible. Second, the set screws didn't tighten down all the way. Seems after even half a game someone bumps it, or it just falls out of whack and can't be used anymore. Although it's a lot cooler than a piece of tape, it didn't work, so I'm still using a piece of tape for the throw line. 2
