Customer Reviews

Wellgo MG-1's are a great addition to enhance your riding experience! These are some great pedals! I purchased these after buying a Trek X-Calibur 7 gently used off of Craigslist. Within a month or so of riding the bike, I noticed that one of my reflectors had fallen out while riding and my feet were constantly slipping off of the pedals when shifting gears or going over bumps/uneven terrain. I spoke to my fellow bike-riding friends at work and one of them highly recommended the Wellgo MG-1's for a great entry pedal. After checking the price, I figured why not.Upon my first ride with the Wellgo MG-1's, I noticed a night & day difference. My feet were not slipping at all whether I was shifting or going over the bumps and uneven terrain that I typically cover on my rides. I'm extremely happy with these pedals and I must say they look way better than my old plastic pedals I had too. These look extremely slick compared to those cheapies.I'm a big fan. It's made my riding experience much better and I love the way the magnesium sealed pedals shine when looking at my bike. 5No seller (Amazon) or Manufacturer (Wellgo) warranty supportReasonably nice BMX pedals, middle of the road price. That's the good news. Installed them in January, started clicking in April.I contacted the seller, Amazon. The nice Indian gentleman at the call center asked his manager and informed me that they will not do anything, it is a manufacturer's issue.I contacted the Manufacturer (Wellgo) twice through the contact form in their site. I got an automated confirmation that my e-mail was received and then... nothing.I would not recommend buying this product given that there is no seller (Amazon) or Manufacturer (Wellgo) warranty support. 1A great value for a quality metal grippy flat pedalThese pedals have held up really well, even under "real" mountain biking conditions. They spin smoothly, grip very well on all types of shoes, and are reasonably light for metal pedals. Overall, a great value in a decent quality metal pedal, especially when compared with the "boutique" brands that cost upwards of $100. Pins are well-placed and very grippy, even in wet conditions. Like other flat pedals with metal pins, they can really chew up your legs if you aren't careful. But that's the case with all flat pedals with pins. After a lot of use over the past six months, the only sign of wear has been some of the black coating wearing off in the main wear area in the center of the flats. I also run a set of Race Face Chester plastic pedals on another bike, and these Wellgo pedals definitely grip better than the Race Face ones. The Chesters are a bit lighter, thinner, and "cooler," but overall I find that I prefer the Wellgo MG-1s more. 5I think they are very robust and a good price. They are tight and don't spin freelyI have two sets. One pedal clicks and the others don't, so I guess a 25% chance of a pedal click, but I keep riding the click with no problem. These things are tough. Last year I was standing up pedaling as fast as I could in high gear down a rocky hill trying to catch someone. I caught a boulder at the bottom of a stroke at full power. The bike instantly stopped and turned sideways and I was ejected down the hill about 30 feet before I hit, for the first time. The pedal had one broken off nail and some deep scratches but no dents and the spindle was not bent. I think they are very robust and a good price. They are tight and don't spin freely. Disassembling and lubricating them help some, but that is probably not worth the effort. I am reluctant to buy more expensive pedals as these also seem to develop problems so why spend more. More expensive ones are lighter, concave, thinner but I feel the benefit of these more expensive pedals is marginal. If they wear out I will probably get another set, unless they get too expensive. 5didn't fit my Novara strapless toe clips, though overall I think I'm happyI got this because 1) I thought a wide platform would be nice, 2) the studs look like they're adjustable(I want it to dig into my shoe sole minimally) and 3) given that it has screw holes in roughly the right place, I thought that it would fit my strapless toe clips. Well, the studs are adjustable, but they do not go down very far. And although I was able to get them in a bit(about one full screw turn, which I suppose is maybe a millimeter) several of the screw heads on the studs stripped while I was doing so. On top of this, to my disappointment the toe clips did not fit on, as the holes, while the same width apart as the holes on the clips, were too close to the pedal surface. I thought I was going to send them back(and still might if I can find an alternative with better studs) but once I lowered the stud height I have to say that I find the pedals very comfortable, possibly to the point where I wouldn't mind not having toe clips. 3The best pedal for the price!I've been bmxing for many years and have tried all types of pedals: aluminum, plastic, sealed/unsealed etc. I recently started mountain biking and was not happy with the stock Wellgo pedals that were on my ride. I don't like clipless pedals because I think having to buy special type of shoes to work with over-priced pedals is insane! I absolutely prefer platform style with a large body, but that is mostly due to my bmx background... Knowing the reputation behind Wellgo I decided to get these. Good choice! These are the reason I decided to get these:-Magnesium body keeps the weight down without being brittle.-Adjustable and replaceable pins! (Although replacement pins are not included)-Large grippy surface-Sealed bearing-Reflectors pre-installed-Price!-Wellgo sticker included 5Quality platform pedals for a bargain of a priceI purchased a couple sets of these pedals back in September 2011 and am still using them to this day! Back then, you occasionally were able to find these pedals for under 30 bucks and it's nice to see they haven't risen in cost that much since then. These pedals offer a pretty insane value considering the quality and feature set you're getting. Why I especially was interested in these over other platform pedals (besides their incredible value) is that they allow for mounting toe clips too. Now is when the collective breath of the hardcore mountain biking community scoffs and murmurs under their breath about how lame toe clips are. Ha! In the world of quality platform pedals, believe me, finding ones that have the mounting holes are few and far between!I've been riding on these pedals with toe clips since 2011 and they've held up quite well, even after a handful of trips to downieville! Of course, I'm not always riding that intensely. I'm more of a casual mountain biker / weekend warrior - I mainly ride just to stay fit and have a little fun while doing it. So most of my wear wouldn't be physical hits to rocks (pedal strike) though I've certainly had a few, but rather just shear use over thousands of miles of cycling. What that means is, the seals do a good job of preventing debris from getting in and destroying the bearings though full disclosure, I'm not a fan of riding in the rain and mud. Regardless of those caveats, I'm pretty impressed! Especially considering the price! Most quality platform pedals cost double or triple these Wellgo pedals! If you're interested in mounting toe clips, please know you'll need to swap the spindles of each pedal (very easy to do) to orientate the mounting area correctly - specifically, to put the forward lip of the pedal on the bottom. Also, if you're interested to know how much lighter the pedal can be with titanium spindles, well I have that answer for you:The Wellgo MG-1 Pedals weigh 182 grams and replacing the spindle with Ti ones lowered it to: 153 grams. I was told changing the spindles on these Wellgo pedals to Ti would make the bearings wear out faster. Hogwash. As I've said, I've clocked thousands of miles on my pedals as I got the Ti spindles only a few days after purchasing these pedals. But looking back, I do find it silly that I bought the Ti spindles. The weight reduction is so rediculously minor, I should have just saved my money and put it towards something else on my bike.TL:DR version: Get these pedals - you can't go wrong. Sure there's better but you'll be spending exponentially more for minor gains. These offer nearly the same performance as a set of $100 platform pedals for about a 3rd of the cost. 5Solidly made metal pedals. Robust and confidence-building.I'm heavy and strong and I break my bike pedals. My last polymer ones snapped right off. I'm very pleased with these solidly made metal pedals so far. They aren't light weight - but they are beefy and feel strong. They are smooth in action and their metal pins give me a solid grip when I'm wearing rubber soled shoes. (You cannot use these barefoot because of those spikes - and be careful about banging them into your shins for the same reason. I've used these nearly daily for the past 2 months. So far, so very good. 5Awesome grip!Just got these pedals and installed them today so this is based on first ride. These rock! I can already feel the grip improvement on the ride compared to the stock nylon wellgo pedals the bike comes with. I am using hiking shoes with tread since its too cold yet for the 5 ten freerider vxi shoe rubber to soften and the pedal grip does not slip at all with the uneven hiking tread. The only thing I am slightly worried about is scraping my shins when the pedal slips but that's probably better than falling off bike clipped in. Installation took 10 min total with the Park pdw-3 pedal wrench and was a breeze for someone that had never done this before. Be sure to get a pedal wrench as regular wrenches are too thick for clearance you have between the pedal and crank. My pedal set came with plastic reflectors built in so I didn't need to order separate bolt on reflectors. ( I have bolt ons now if plastic falls off.) And my order came with 1 left and 1 right pedal. This order comes from China and the packaging reflects that. Don't be alarmed since Wellgo is a Taiwanese brand and a lot of manufacturing is in China anyways. Will see how reliability is over time. Pedal size is bigger than stock size, see photos 5Compares really well to speedline pedals for 1/3 the priceI have a pair of reasonably expensive speedline pedals on my Salsa Fargo and simply love them. These are almost the exact same and the perfect fit for my 15+ year old Cannondale M300. These pedals replaced the ones I'd had on that bike for almost the same amount of time that had cages. The broad platform on these is really comfortable on longer rides, provides good support for the choppy off-road stuff, and the spikes offer great traction even when it's wet.The spikes actually offer enough traction that I feel like I get almost as much on my upstroke as I did with my old cages.Great price & compares really well with the premium stuff. One of my buddies made fun of me for "spending over a hundred bucks on a 20 year-old bike." So I sent him the Amazon link to these and shut him up! 5
